The ultimate guide to Sun Protection

Updated: May 12

The following Sun lotion for every day protection for your face is highly recommended

Just before this summer beach holiday ..

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. This is a number which indicates how many times more the skin is protected if using a product with SPF specified.

SPF products have different level of protection

The Sun Protection Factor represents the theoretical length of time that you can stay in the sun unprotected without getting sunburned. So, if your skin starts to redden in 20 minutes without sun block, applying a product with SPF 15 increases that time by a factor of 15, meaning you could stay in the sun for around 300 minutes.

A higher SPF blocks out more rays..

UVA stands for Ultraviolet A rays

The UVA contribute to Skin Ageing

UVB Stands for Ultraviolet B rays

The UVB contribute to the Skin burning

A product with an SPF of 15 will filter out approximately 93 percent of UVB rays;

SPF 30 filters out about 97 percent.

SPF50 filters out about 98 percent.

Sun lotions while on holiday on the beach:

What is the correct amount of sun lotion to apply ?

☀️The recommended amount for the body is at least an ounce (30ml)

☀️Your face will need an amount equivalent to a tea spoon (5ml)

What frequency to apply the lotion ?

☀️ Make sure you apply the lotion at least 30 minutes before the exposure to the sun

☀️ The protection of most lotions deteriorate with time so make sure to apply fresh lotion every 2 hours while exposed to the sun and sooner if you swim or exercise because water, sweat, and clothing can remove it from the skin

☀️ Don’t rub the sunscreen into your skin but spread the sunscreen as uniformly as possible over the surface of the skin and allow to dry.
